What Is the Geographical Indication (GI) Protection System?
What Is the Geographical Indication (GI) Protection System?
The Geographical Indication (GI) Protection System protects the names of products whose quality, reputation, or other distinctive characteristics have been shaped by the natural environment, traditions, culture, and social conditions of a particular region. These names are protected as intellectual property belonging to the region.
Only producers and sellers of products that meet the registered standards, including requirements relating to the place and method of production, are permitted to use the registered geographical indication and the GI logo.

Products bearing a registered geographical indication and the GI logo have been certified as meeting established quality standards and as originating from the designated region. All of Ogawa Suisan’s farm-raised uni products carry this GI label.
