Based in Hamanaka, Akkeshi District, Hokkaido—an area blessed with some of the world’s finest seafood—Hamanaka Ogawa Suisan carefully prepares premium sea urchin, including Ezo bafun uni, with the utmost care and dedication.
Since 1990, we have shipped Hamanaka Ogawa sea urchin to wholesale markets throughout Japan. Over the years, we have earned the trust of highly skilled professionals at leading sushi restaurants, traditional Japanese restaurants, and kappo establishments, as well as seafood wholesalers and brokers.
Our sea urchin is highly regarded for both its exceptional taste and beautiful appearance, and is traded at premium prices even at Toyosu Market, Japan’s foremost wholesale market.
In recent years, sea urchin aquaculture has also flourished in Hamanaka. In 2023, “Hamanaka Farmed Sea Urchin” was registered under Japan’s Geographical Indication (GI) Protection System.
Hamanaka is ideally suited to sea urchin farming, with a year-round supply of kelp for feed and seawater temperatures that remain below 20°C even during the summer. Taking advantage of these favorable conditions, the town has established Japan’s only year-round production system for farmed sea urchin.
Hamanaka Ogawa Sea Urchin will continue to enhance its techniques and production environment, striving to remain a trusted brand that consistently delivers premium-quality sea urchin.
